Interface Description

IGSS32 offsers an interface for PROFIBUS equipment which supports the FMS protocol.

The PROFIBUS (Process Field Bus) standard (DIN 19245) is a high-performance communication system for simple and inexpensive equipment. Its functionality and dat transfer capabilities ensure the transition to high performance networks.

The IGSS32 Profibus FMS driver interfaces to the ProfiBoard PC card, and OSI layer 7 interface driver from Softing GmbH.

The IGSS32 system polls the PLC equipment cyclically according to one of four user-defined time intervals. The time intervals are configurable from 100 milliseconds to 999 seconds. The system automatically groups process data in data blocks - thus fully exploiting the the communication link in relation to the present configuration.

The document below contains a description of how to set up a connection to a Simatic S7 PLC used for normal polling and expands this description with guidelines for adding event-oriented communication, i.e. the Simatic writes unsolicited data to IGSS.
